Please note that this role is available on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis.

The Role:

As a Senior SACT Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering chemotherapy nursing services to patients within the unit and deputising for the line manager where required. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact and develop your career.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and throughout all stages of treatment.
  • Ensure a high standard of evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing chemotherapy, assessing health and nursing needs, and initiating appropriate care steps. This includes managing a patient caseload, liaising with medical consultants, ordering diagnostic tests within agreed parameters, and running nurse-led clinics.
  • Work autonomously while providing clinical leadership, ensuring accurate care plans that reflect assessments and recommendations, with clear documentation in patient records.
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in intravenous access, management of central venous catheters, venepuncture, and chemotherapy delivery, including managing anaphylaxis and extravasation.

What You'll Have:

Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in intravenous drug administration and chemotherapy administration.
  • Sufficient post-registration nursing experience in oncology or a related specialty to be confident and competent in required skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and make decisions, organise, and prioritise effectively.
  • Experience and competence in blood transfusion and bone marrow biopsies.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • NMC Registered Nurse.
  • UKONS SACT Passport or willingness to complete within three months of appointment.
  • Full training and qualification in venepuncture and cannulations, with experience working with various central venous access devices.
  • Willingness to train towards a recognised chemotherapy qualification.
  • Experience in oncology telephone triage and recognition/management of neutropenic sepsis.
