Job Purpose:
The Senior Quality Engineer plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality software products. Acting as a guardian of quality, the role involves improving processes, tools, and techniques. It is a hands-on, techno-functional role with strong Agile testing experience to guide, oversee, and deliver testing activities within a product team.
The candidate will lead testing efforts, mentor offshore testers, and ensure high-quality releases. Responsibilities include test planning, case preparation, execution, automation, and defect management to enhance our Agile testing processes.
This role reports operationally to the Quality Engineering Practice Manager and functionally to the Engineering Delivery Lead/Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Test Delivery & Collaboration: Act as a quality advocate within the product team, working with cross-functional Agile team members to ensure high-quality test deliverables. Collaborate with the Engineering Delivery Lead/Manager on daily testing activities and promote a shift-left testing approach. Participate in all stages of the Agile SDLC. Support production incidents and service requests, monitor systems, and document processes. Work with the Quality Engineering Practice Manager to improve testing practices and track quality metrics. Collaborate with offshore testers and foster skill development. Understand business processes and build a knowledge repository.
- Hands-On Testing & Test Automation: Design, develop, and execute manual and automated test cases covering functional, integration, and regression tests. Maintain and enhance test automation scripts using tools like Katalon Studio. Explore automation opportunities within sprints. Conduct root cause analysis for defects. Support acceptance testing and facilitate demos. Collaborate with DevOps teams on environment and deployment issues.
- Performance Objectives: Quickly adapt to the product team's ways of working. Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and demonstrate testing contributions. Establish knowledge transition plans with stakeholders. Work with the Quality Engineering Practice Manager to improve testing practices.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in Scrum teams, specializing in manual testing and test automation.
- Technical Skills: 2-3 years as a Senior Quality Engineer, proficiency in Pega (including scenario testing), test automation tools (Katalon), DevOps pipelines (CI/CD), and Azure Test Plans.
- Soft Skills: Analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and resilience under pressure.
- Language Skills: High proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Certifications: Preferably LM1/2 certification and a strong understanding of London Market Insurance.
