Bloomfield Hospital is inviting applications for the position of a Senior Psychologist.

This position offers the opportunity to provide psychological services both within the context of general adult psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychiatry of later life, mental health rehabilitation, and the care of patients with neurocognitive and neurodegenerative conditions, including conditions such as dementia and Huntington's disease.

Work Location: Stocking Lane, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16, Ireland

Hours of work per week: 37 hours, Monday to Friday

About Bloomfield Hospital:

We are a 131-bed inpatient mental health service, registered as an approved centre with the Mental Health Commission. Our ethos is rooted in honouring the dignity of every person who comes through our doors.

Bloomfield Hospital provides a spectrum of neuropsychiatric services to adults with a range of serious and enduring mental health needs such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's Diseases, as well as individuals with early onset dementias, schizophrenia, and mood disorders. We are the only facility in Ireland that provides a high level of specialized care for people with Huntington's disease.

In Bloomfield Hospital there is a focus on creating a therapeutic environment by using recovery-oriented clinical practices and therapeutic interventions, which are evidence-based, to enable and support patients to achieve their highest level of functioning and quality of life. This care is delivered through a Multidisciplinary Team including colleagues in Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language, Dietetics, Physiotherapy, and General Practice.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

• A recognised third level degree or diploma (QQ1 level 8 equivalent) obtained with first- or second-class honours in which psychology was taken as a major subject and honours were obtained in that subject, and which is accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland.
• A recognised postgraduate professional qualification in Psychology appropriate to adult mental health practice, or an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health, at the level required for appointment as a Senior Psychologist.
• A minimum of eight years' relevant professional psychology experience, including substantial post-qualification experience in adult mental health.
• Significant professional experience working within adult mental health services, including experience with adults presenting with complex and enduring mental health difficulties.
• Previous professional psychology experience within a hospital, inpatient mental health service, psychiatric rehabilitation service or comparable healthcare environment, together with demonstrable experience working as an active member of a multidisciplinary clinical team.
• Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
• A background, postgraduate training or clinical experience in neuropsychology, cognitive assessment, neurocognitive disorders or neurodegenerative conditions would be advantageous.
• Experience working within a mental health rehabilitation setting/framework.
• Training in cognitive-behavioural therapy, including CBT for psychosis.
• Training/expertise in at least one other therapeutic modality (e.g. family therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, schema therapy, emotion-focused therapy, compassion-focused therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy).
• Training in clinical supervision and experience of providing same.
• Have good knowledge and experience of health, safety and other statutory regulations affecting a healthcare organisation.
• To be in a position to demonstrate good 'people management' experience and skills.
• Be able to illustrate a high level of verbal and non-verbal skills in order to effectively communicate with and relate to patients, visitors, colleagues, management team and board members.
• Be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
• Be able to receive Garda Clearance as a person fit to hold the position of Senior Psychologist at Bloomfield Hospital.
• Previous experience working specifically with schizophrenia would be advantageous.
