About the role
We are looking for an experienced and confident Senior Project Manager - Complex Projects to lead the delivery of some of our most significant investment, construction, refurbishment, remediation and building safety projects.
This is a key role within our Investment Delivery service, responsible for managing complex, high-value and high-risk projects from inception through to completion. You will provide strong client-side project leadership, ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
The role will also involve leading the Complex Projects Team, including direct management of the newly appointed Apprentice Project Manager and Resident Liaison Officer. You will support their development, provide clear direction and ensure the team delivers a coordinated, professional and customer-focused service.
What you'll be doing
You will lead and manage a portfolio of complex projects, ensuring robust governance, effective risk management, strong financial control and clear reporting arrangements are in place.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading complex construction, refurbishment, remediation, investment and building safety projects.
- Managing project budgets, forecasts, programmes, risks and performance.
- Acting as senior client-side project manager and, where required, Contract Administrator under JCT contracts or Project Manager / Service Manager under NEC contracts.
- Managing consultants, contractors and suppliers to ensure they deliver against agreed outcomes.
- Providing clear and timely assurance reports to senior managers, governance groups, Board, Doncaster Council and other key stakeholders.
- Leading project governance, including progress meetings, risk reviews, contractor meetings and stakeholder updates.
- Ensuring projects are delivered in line with statutory requirements, health and safety legislation, building regulations, procurement rules and organisational policies.
- Working collaboratively with internal teams including compliance, building safety, asset management, repairs, housing management, finance, legal and procurement.
- Supporting effective resident engagement and ensuring customers are kept informed, listened to and supported throughout project delivery.
- Managing, coaching and developing the Apprentice Project Manager and Resident Liaison Officer.
About you
We are looking for someone who can bring strong technical knowledge, commercial awareness and project leadership experience to a challenging and rewarding role.
You will have experience of managing complex, high-value or high-risk construction, refurbishment, remediation or investment projects. You will be confident managing contractors and consultants, overseeing budgets and programmes, and providing clear advice and assurance to senior stakeholders.
You will also be an effective team leader, able to support and develop others while maintaining high standards of performance, accountability and customer focus.
You will need to demonstrate:
- Strong experience of managing complex projects in a construction, housing, asset management or built environment setting.
- Good knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
- Understanding of CDM Regulations, Building Regulations, health and safety requirements and building safety considerations.
- Strong financial and commercial awareness.
- Excellent communication, report writing and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, risks and deadlines.
- A customer-focused approach, particularly when works may affect residents and communities.
- The ability to lead, motivate and develop a small specialist team.
Why join us?
This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in the delivery of complex and high-profile projects that make a real difference to homes, communities and customers.
You will be joining a service with a strong focus on investment, compliance, safety, customer engagement and continuous improvement. The role provides the opportunity to influence how complex projects are governed and delivered, while also helping to develop future project management talent within the organisation.
