The opportunity

The department HVDC Engineering Plant Electrical Design manages the delivery of auxiliary power systems for HVDC stations. The design of these systems is complex and involves collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities include system design, selectivity studies, equipment specification, cable and cable transit systems. The scope covers equipment such as auxiliary transformers, medium & low voltage switchgear, diesel generator systems, batteries, UPS, and cables. Due to ongoing growth, we are seeking to expand our team with a Senior Project Engineer.

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement (2-3 days in the office at our Glasgow location and the remainder remote). Some international travel will be required for customer and supplier meetings, as well as site supervision.

How you'll make an impact

You will be part of a global engineering team responsible for the delivery of auxiliary power equipment for HVDC stations, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and quality deliveries.

Your daily tasks will include coordinating your team's work, managing contacts with other departments, customers, and external suppliers.

You will be accountable for creating auxiliary power SLDs, load lists and calculations, equipment dimensioning, requirement specifications, reviewing supplier drawings, FAT, cable way and cable design, installation supervision, and commissioning.

You will also provide expertise on aligning HVDC Base Design concepts with grid code and customer requirements.

Your background

You should have several years of technical and leadership experience, including planning, delegation, guidance, and follow-up.

Experience within auxiliary power, selectivity studies, or leading low voltage equipment installation and commissioning is essential.

Good knowledge of Grid Code, National Grid, and SSE customer requirements is required.

High proficiency in spoken and written English is necessary.

Experience working in international teams or companies is preferred.
