This role is advertised as part of our BBC Extend programme for disabled people. PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £80,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM
We're seeking a motivated, technically-capable Senior Product Manager tospearhead the next phase of our Content Metadata capability, a cornerstone of strategic initiatives across the BBC Product Group. In this
role, you will unite editorial, data, UX and engineering teams to further ourmetadata services and tooling - transforming bold concepts into robust, scalable systems that empower colleagues across the BBC to enhance theexperience of millions. This is a unique opportunity to continue to shape how the BBC curates, personalises and makes content discoverable.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
• Strategy: Take ownership of the product vision and strategy for adefined area of metadata, translating BBC high-level strategic priorities into actionable outcome-focussed product roadmaps and plans.
• Deliver Scalable Solutions: Lead the product lifecycle for metadata tools and services, including both Discovery and Delivery phases,and build scalable, user-focused solutions that work across content types, platforms, and use cases.
•Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with engineering, UX, data, editorial and policy teams to understand needs, align priorities, and deliver joined-up solutions that unlock value from metadata, applying agile practices to delivery iteratively.
•Product Expertise: Use strong product thinking to guide teams through decisions and trade-offs. Champion outcome-focused practices, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
•Proven experience in product management, ideally in editorial, content management, or internal tooling environments.
•Skilled in prioritisation and value-driven decision-making, utilising data, user research and testing to analyse problems and balance editorial needs, technical constraints, and strategic goals.
•Technical fluency - the ability to engage confidently with engineering teams, understanding systems and workflows.
•Proven experience of successfully shaping and scaling complex products that have been used by large numbers of users.
•Strong stakeholder engagement skills, able to communicate and engage with diverse cross functional teams around a shared vision, and navigate a highly complex stakeholder matrix.
•Experience working in Agile teams, or using Agile methodologies to delivery complex products.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
•Background in digital media or public service broadcasting.
•Understanding of AI-assisted editorial tools and ethical considerations.
•Awareness of emerging technology trends and how they apply to editorial product design.
•Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
•Agile certification or formal product management training.
