Handling Specialty is seeking Purchasing Specialist to join our growing team.

- Able to decipher Engineered drawings.
- Aid in identifying and evaluating new sources of supply with respect to delivery, quality and cost.
- Able to prepare requests for quotes (RFQ's) and purchase orders (PO's)
- Work with suppliers, to expedite critical parts orders.
- Knowledge and capabilities of local vendors and machine shops.
- Able to negotiate with vendors on purchases, and negotiate back charges with vendors supplying non-conforming product.
- Manage and conduct pre-qualification audits.
- Support product and project procurement activities in conjunction with production schedule.
- Support supply base and supplier development program.
- Monitor supplier delivery and quality performance.
- Quote and arrange freight for equipment and/or parts.
- Analysis of material costing performance to project budgets.
- Project costing assessments for all actual to budget performance.
- Other duties as required
- Minimum of 7 years of proven experience in purchasing within a heavy manufacturing environment is required
- Technical Acumen with demonstrated ability to interpret engineered drawings and translate them into sourcing decisions as it is crucial in our custom manufacturing environment is a must
- Vendor Network - Evidence of relationships with local machine shops or specialized vendors who can handle low-volume, high specification components
- Costing and Lead Time Management - demonstrated experience balancing cost, quality, and delivery timelines in a build-to-order environment
- Cross-functional Collaboration - Proven track record of working with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure procurement aligns with design intent and manufacturing constraints
- Relevant Post-secondary Education or enrollment in a PMAC education program
- Expert Microsoft office, and computer skills
- Strong problem identification and problem-solving skills, sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
