Salary: £27,900- £35,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. London weighting may be applicable.

The charity funds local charities and projects working with children and young people facing disadvantage in communities across the UK. We are seeking a Senior Press Officer to support the team in our external communications function.

Main Responsibilities
  • Devise and implement media and PR campaigns to raise BBC Children in Need's profile, increase engagement, and support Appeal-related programming and partnership campaigns.
  • Collaborate across BBC departments to plan and deliver integrated PR activities that highlight the charity's impact across the UK.
  • Lead the PR team in identifying proactive media opportunities, aligning with the daily news agenda and spotlighting the challenges faced by children and young people.
  • Develop and deliver insight-driven PR strategies that enhance the charity's reputation within the media and funding sectors.
  • Manage press operations, including the creation and distribution of accurate press materials, and support the PR & Comms Lead in handling media inquiries, issues, and reputational risks.
  • Plan and coordinate press events, such as photoshoots, visits, and launches, and deputise for the PR & Comms Lead when required.
Are you the right Candidate?

We are seeking a Senior Press Officer with the following experience:

  • Experience of successfully developing and delivering external communication campaigns
  • Experience of delivering and supporting on corporate communications
  • Good journalist contacts across the national, consumer and trade media
  • A proactive self-starter with an ability to generate high quality, creative ideas
  • Strong crisis communication experience
  • Strong interpersonal and team working skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Considerable copywriting experience
  • Influencing and negotiating skills
  • Experience/knowledge of the charity sector would be advantageous
