The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) is seeking a Senior Port Officer to join its established team in Howth, taking on a key leadership role within the Authority.
About the Role
As Senior Port Officer, you'll play a central part in delivering SFPA's sea-fisheries control and food safety functions at port level, with real responsibility for operational management, regulatory compliance, data integrity, and the delivery of SFPA's statutory objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate day-to-day operational matters locally
- Deliver the Authority's Sea-Fisheries Operations programme (Fisheries Control and Food Safety) in line with SFPA's Strategy and Annual Business Plan
- Oversee the collection of fish catch and fishing effort statistics for quota, effort management and policy purposes
- Report to and advise the Authority on operational matters
- Implement and enforce EU and national legislation on Food Safety and Fisheries Control and Conservation
- Collect, collate and check fish catch statistics from EU fishing logbooks, sales notes and other sources
- Ensure SFPA's contractual commitments to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland are met
- Support EU missions on Fisheries Conservation, Control and Food Safety in your area
- Act as an authorised officer under the Food Safety Authority of Ireland Act 1998
What We're Looking For
- National Diploma (Level 7) or higher in a relevant discipline (e.g. fisheries technology, engineering, science, geography, law, finance)
- At least 2 years' experience as a Sea Fisheries Protection Officer/Sea Fishery Officer
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to allocate work, set performance standards, and manage team performance
- Solid management capability, particularly in delivering key business objectives and regulatory responsibilities
- Excellent communication skills, able to bridge staff and management effectively
- Ability to manage complex technical programmes and legal issues
- Good administrative skills, including report writing, planning, budget management, and IT proficiency
- Willingness to travel nationally, with some international travel required
- A full, clean driving licence
