Are you ready to take your payrolling career to the next level? At Smailes Goldie, we are proud to be one of the region's leading independent accountancy firms, and we're looking for a Senior Payroll Officer to join our growing team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To provide support, guidance and technical advice to Payroll Officers and other key stakeholders with the support of the Payroll Manager.
  • Involvement in the onboarding/new client set up administration process.
  • Supporting the Assistant Payroll Manager and Payroll Manager with more complex queries.
  • Assisting with the implementation of project work overseen by the Assistant Payroll Manager.
  • Managing multiple and complex payrolls across various pay frequencies, including starters, leavers, temporary adjustments, pensions, and statutory payments.
  • Submitting PAYE and EPS reports at month-end.
  • Handling HMRC queries and supporting client compliance.
  • Administer pension calculations compliantly.
  • Delivering accurate and timely payroll services to a diverse client base.
  • The ability to calculate payroll from gross to net with confidence
Qualification/Experience:

We are open to applicants who are CIPP qualified, but if you are qualified by experience, we would still love to hear from you.

  • We are looking for someone who is proactive, detail-focused, and passionate about delivering an outstanding service.
  • Excellent client communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A high level of accuracy and the ability to prioritise and multitask effectively.
  • Effective organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workload.
  • Experience using cloud-based payroll software.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Excel, and confidence in learning new systems.
  • A solid understanding of statutory payments and payroll legislation.
  • Knowledge of directors' NIC, CIS, and various pension schemes.
