Senior Occupational Therapist (0.2 or 7 hours/week Permanent Contract)

Overview

Lead the Occupational Therapy component of the Adolescent Assessment for Homecare Admission, including conducting comprehensive initial assessments, identifying occupational therapy needs, formulating clinical recommendations, determining referral needs, signposting to community resources, and implementing appropriate interventions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain standards of practice for self and staff within the clinical area.
• Manage own caseload and oversee the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment programmes for service users; interventions may be face to face or virtual.
• Participate in discharge planning and MDTs, communicating findings and recommendations to the team, families and service users.
• Ensure accurate documentation of all assessments, plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries in the electronic health record, in line with local policy, CORU Code of Ethics and USE Plain English where necessary.
• Adhere to existing standards and protocols, developing and maintaining quality improvement strategies and outcome measurement.
• Seek clinical advice and assistance in line with evidence based practice and clinical governance principles.
• Maintain confidentiality, ethics and legislative compliance, and practice within the scope of Occupational Therapy in Ireland.
• Apply knowledge of the Mental Health Commission and Judgement Support Framework.

Qualifications and Experience

• Hold a qualification in Occupational Therapy recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) and validated by CORU.
• Be registered with CORU.
• Have a minimum of three years' clinical experience, ideally in CAMHS or adolescent/young adult mental health settings.
• Experience working in inpatient/day patient/outpatient mental health settings as part of a multidisciplinary team, facilitating occupation based and psychoeducational groups.
• Ability to support young persons with psychiatric illness across various stages of recovery, delivering both face to face and virtual assessments, interventions, and group sessions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Teams and Outlook.

• Demonstrate clinical knowledge, reasoning and evidence based practice for adolescents with psychiatric illness in a homecare/outpatient setting.
• Apply assessment tools and treatments, understanding their implications for service users.
• Plan and deliver services effectively and resourcefully, working independently and as part of a team.
• Communicate and collaborate with colleagues, families and carers.
• Follow line management directions and use supervision effectively.
• Commit to continuing professional development and embrace relevant IT skills.
• Provide both face to face and virtual assessments, interventions and group sessions.

Terms and Conditions

• Tenure: 0.2 WTE, Permanent Contract.
• Working week: 14 hours/fortnight.
• Salary: €65,200 €76,770, commensurate with experience.
• Annual leave: 28 days pro rata.
• Pension: membership upon commencement; internal appointments retain existing arrangements.
• Probation: six months, with review; extension or suspension in line with EU (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) 2022.
• Health: must be fully competent and capable of undertaking duties; reasonable prospect of regular service.
• Character: good character required.
• Retirement age: normal at 66 years.
