Carrington West are working with Derby City Council to find a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Reactive Maintenance) on an initial 6-month contract.
This role is firmly focused on reactive maintenance and fault diagnosis, supporting council-owned buildings across Derby, including schools. You'll act as the technical lead when systems fail, identifying causes, specifying remedial works and ensuring safe, compliant outcomes.
The role- Diagnose mechanical and heating system failures across council buildings
- Attend site, investigate faults and produce clear defect and condition reports
- Raise and manage work orders via the maintenance portal
- Provide mechanical and heating design input where required
- Supervise contractors and inspect works for quality and compliance
- Advise schools and stakeholders on maintenance priorities
- Ensure compliance with health & safety and energy efficiency standards
You'll be site-based in Derby around 3 days per week.
About you- Strong background in mechanical & heating maintenance
- Proven experience in reactive maintenance and fault diagnosis
- Previous "on the tools" experience highly desirable
- Gas certification and recognised mechanical qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 7, BTEC HNC/HND or similar)
- Confident producing technical reports and making engineering decisions
- Location: Derby City Council (DE1 2FS)
- Contract: Initial 6 months
- Hours: 37 per week
- Rate: £46.40 per hour (Inside IR35 - Umbrella)
