The Opportunity

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join their team on a long-term contract basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to technically challenging projects within a secure and structured environment.

We would also welcome applications from those with experience in defence, aerospace, oil & gas, process engineering, or complex manufacturing environments.
This role would suit candidates working as Mechanical Design Engineers, Senior Designers, CAD Engineers, Design Leads, Plant Layout Engineers, Piping Designers, Mechanical Engineers, Project Designers, or Technical Leads.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
  • Delivering high-quality mechanical design solutions in a highly regulated, detailed design environment.
  • Leading and coordinating a team of designers across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Producing and reviewing technical drawings and documentation in line with industry standards.
  • Applying sound knowledge of engineering drawing practices to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Using CAD software effectively to develop and modify complex mechanical layouts.
  • Collaborating with engineers and stakeholders to resolve design challenges and integrate solutions.
  • Ensuring all work aligns with project specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements.
  • Supporting the development of junior team members and promoting best practices.
  • Managing design deliverables to meet project timelines and milestones.
  • Contributing to design reviews and providing technical input across the project lifecycle.
You will have the following qualifications and experience
  • HNC or HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Strong background in detailed design within a regulated industry.
  • Proficient in the use of CAD tools for mechanical design.
  • Solid understanding of general engineering drawing standards and conventions.
  • Experience leading technical teams and interfacing with other engineering disciplines.
