Job Description
Overview

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a 12-month Vitreoretinal Fellowship at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. There are three vacancies in total: one starting in February 2026, one in October 2026, and one in February 2027. There are currently three Vitreoretinal clinical fellows in post for one year, one research VR fellow, and 2 to 3 Specialist Registrars (including level 4 training) on the team. The closing date is 06 November 2025.

There are seven Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeons: Mr Niall Patton, Mr Dhawahir-Scala, Mr Assad Jalil, Ms Tsveta Ivanova, Mr Kirti Jasani, Mr George Moussa and Mr George Turner. The VR unit provides a 24/7 tertiary referral service to other ophthalmic units in the North West of England. The Fellow attends specialist tertiary referral clinics and dedicated VR operating sessions under the direction of the Consultant trainers. The Clinical Fellowship is suitable for a trainee Ophthalmologist seeking advanced sub-speciality training in vitreoretinal surgery and the Fellow will have the opportunity to acquire skills appropriate to Consultant Ophthalmologists providing a major sub-specialist service in a large ophthalmology centre. Previous experience of vitreoretinal surgery is essential.
