Senior Legal Counsel - Job Description

is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel with strong payments regulatory and product background to join its legal team. The role involves advising on compliance with financial services and payments regulations, interacting with regulators, and assisting in broader regulatory projects and product launches. The successful candidate will collaborate with all business areas, provide consultative and collaborative legal support, handle multiple responsibilities independently, and play a key role in supporting the company's rapid growth. Based at the London office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with Commercial, Product, Treasury, Financial Partnerships and Compliance teams to provide real time legal advice and help achieve business objectives.
  • Support relationships with regulators on license related matters, including potential de novo applications.
  • Review payments product structures, flows and terms to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Advise on payments regulatory matters across jurisdictions.
  • Advise on broader regulatory requirements applicable to financial institutions, including group regulatory change projects.
  • Advise on market expansion, researching new territories and applying for new licenses or expanding existing licenses.
  • Advise key business functions on new regulatory developments impacting operations, products and contractual commitments.
Qualifications
  • Qualified solicitor/lawyer with 8+ years post qualification experience, either in house or private practice.
  • Strong understanding of legal principles in payments, including the payments ecosystem and payments regulatory and licensing strategy/execution, and broader financial institution law.
  • Experience in FinTech, start ups, payments and/or financial institution preferred but not essential.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to handle a diverse workload with competing stakeholder demands.
  • Capability to manage and deliver on multiple high priority projects concurrently.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, constant change, and a fast paced culture.
  • Practical, solutions oriented focus for solving legal challenges.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, adapting approach as needed.
  • Strong communication skills, able to articulate complex legal issues clearly and concisely.
