Job Description
The job holder will be part of a horticultural team that supports both research and production activities related to the supply of cannabinoid based medicines.
Provision of all aspects of plant husbandry including propagation, maintenance, harvest and processing of research material grown within the glasshouse facility.
The candidate is expected to have a good understanding of their duties and ensure they are conducted within a good practice (GxP) environment and operate within the bounds of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). They will develop a degree of specialism within one or more aspects of the role.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities- Preparation and planting of seeds.
- Propagation of plants via cuttings.
- Potting and movement of plants.
- Irrigating of plants manually or via a fertigation system.
- Scouting for pests and disease and applying biological controls.
- Crop monitoring.
- Harvesting and agronomic assessment of plants.
- Processing of and milling of botanical raw material (BRM) and quality related samples.
- Preparation and labelling of harvested material to be placed in drying rooms.
- Stripping and recording of dried plant material in preparation for milling.
- Documenting movement of plants and process samples in line with company practice and government regulations.
- Recording of phenotypic observations onto scoresheets or databases.
- As part of the role there is a requirement to work weekends on a rotational basis after an initial probationary period.
- Execute additional tasks as requested to meet departmental project, development or change objectives.
- Assist in the training of new or less experienced colleagues.
- Can identify clear mistakes as they occur and rectify at source.
- Be highly competent in all tasks and have a degree of specialism within the role.
- Demonstrable experience working within a glasshouse production or research facility.
- A relevant horticultural qualification at Level 3 or above (e.g. BTEC National Diploma). Relevant experience may be considered in-lieu of formal qualifications.
- Experience in a record based or quality environment.
- Complete risk assessments and SOPs.
- Demonstrate competency of horticultural practices.
- Demonstrates a can do approach.
- Computer literate.
- A willingness to share ideas and information.
- Counterbalance forklift truck licence
Please note, this is a Fixed Term Contract position for 16 months.
