We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant on an initial 18-month contract basis with the possibility of longer term opportunities depending on business needs. The successful candidate will be a key member of the UK Finance Team and will be responsible for end-to-end accounting practice processes involved in the month-end and year-end finance close. They will also be involved in supporting the audits of the UK operating entity and UK Holding entity.

Blackfriars, London (hybrid, min. three days per week in the office - Tues, Weds, Thurs)

What We Are Looking For:

Reporting to the European Financial Controller you will demonstrate capability in two core finance activities:

  • financial accounting and reporting, as it relates to closing processes and reconciliations
  • order-to-cash process, from invoicing to cash collection (around 100 sales invoices a month)

As part of this role you'll be managing an assistant accountant, who's current focuses include: accounts payables, prepayments, accruals and bank reconciliations.
You will assist in maintaining the financial records for our two UK entities using Sage Intacct.
You will be a key point of contact for the annual audits (local and group), UK tax assessments and other ad-hoc assignments.

This role is for a key member in a highly motivated team who enjoys using data and numbers to generate insights and improve our business. The successful candidate will be comfortable communicating with colleagues of all levels within the business, have an eye for detail and be an outcome focused individual with a 'can-do'/hands on attitude.

Key Accountabilities:

Monthly & Annual closing (Record-to-Report)

  • Working closely with the European Financial Controller, you will help implement processes that support and deliver best practice accounting activities
  • Prepare and book monthly journal entries (including payroll), review transactions and be able to provide commentary on monthly P&L activity
  • Ensure the monthly close is done on a timely basis and within set deadlines
  • End-to-end ownership of the preparation and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts including intercompany. Verify and investigate reconciliation discrepancies, if any, and identify improvements to ensure accuracy of the account balances.

Order to cash process

  • Own the order-to-cash process including invoicing and revenue recognition. This will require working closely with the firm's Partners across the UK business to ensure we are proactively invoicing and managing clients in accordance with terms set within customer contracts
  • As part of the above, you will need to be comfortable in understanding customer contracts and knowledgeable in the recognition of accrued or deferred income where necessary
  • Play a role in ensuring our project management system (Scoro) stays up to date and information related to projects is accurate, working closely with project managers and Partners to achieve this
  • Take ownership in managing and collecting debts from customers alongside the assistant accountant, liaising via; emails, calls, procurement platforms etc to manage and reduce the DSO
  • Help Partners produce revenue forecast inputs for review by our FP&A team

Management

  • Provide direct support and supervision to the assistant accountant alongside the European Financial Controller to ensure our procure-to-pay processes are best practice and meeting our working capital objectives
  • Provide direction to the assistant accountant, setting short term goals and objectives to aid in their development

Other activities

  • Provide accurate input to assist the European Financial Controller in cash flow forecasting
  • Play a key role in supporting the European Financial Controller with all aspects of the annual audit, tax and regulatory activities.
  • Member of the global financial controller team responsible for ensuring alignment, consistency, and best practice finance outcomes globally
  • Active participant in the implementation and ongoing improvement of all finance related systems/processes across DGA
  • Other adhoc activities as directed by the Group Financial Controller and European Financial Controller.

The successful candidate

  • A fast-paced learner who can hit the ground running, with a track record of rolling up their sleeves to get the work done, while looking for improvements along the way
  • Ability to multitask, manage priorities well and complete tasks in a timely manner while maintaining a high standard of work
  • Solid understanding of UK technical accounting rules, processes, and procedures.
  • Detail oriented with a proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
  • Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers, high degree of accuracy and diligence.
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in Excel
  • Prior experience with Sage Intacct is strongly appreciated
  • A team player who demonstrates curiosity and is action oriented.
  • Experience in managing, overseeing, and reviewing work of junior staff is a plus

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), or qualified by experience with strong financial management background
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience working within a finance team of a complex business, preferably within a group structure.
  • Experience in UK GAAP and preferably IFRS/US GAAP
