Job Description
Senior Fellow In Medical Retina (Ophthalmology) - NHS Medical & Dental: Specialty Trainee (ST6-8) 
Location & Contract
Full time (40 hours per week plus on call). Fixed term 12 months, renewable by mutual consent. Based at King's College Hospital, Denmark Hill (DH).
Lead clinical services for ocular retinal conditions, including:
- Investigate and treat patients with diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration (AMD) and retinal vein occlusion.
- Deliver nurse run intravitreal injections and perform 577 nm pattern retinal laser therapy and verteporfin photodynamic therapy (PDT).
- Utilise advanced imaging modalities: networked SD OCT, OCT A, wide field Optos imaging, fluorescein angiography (FFA), indocyanine green angiography (ICG) and fundus autofluorescence (FAF).
- Participate in the active retinal research unit and collaborate with the vitreoretinal surgical team.
- Provide on call ophthalmic care to patients referred from Lewisham, Sidcup, Farnborough and other NHS sites.
- Cover general ophthalmology duties as required, including outpatient and inpatient management and ward referrals.
- MRCOphth or equivalent.
- Full registration with the GMC and licence to practice.
- Additional higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD) valued.
- Completion of a management course and/or qualification.
- Title of teaching skills course or qualification.
- Wide experience covering all aspects of ophthalmology, culminating in award of CCT or equivalent.
- Specialist training in medical retina.
- Experience in day to day organisation of ophthalmic services in a busy teaching hospital.
- Experience conducting or supporting clinical research.
- Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and exam preparation.
- Familiarity with NHS structure and recent service initiatives.
- Effective communicator; able to work within a close knit multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated leadership capability.
- Strong understanding of medical audit and quality improvement principles.
- Comfortable with information technology and general computer skills.
