The Role
The Senior Engineer (Temporary) reports directly to the Executive Manager and leads the technical and engineering workstream for the Camden Yard development. They manage the engineering programme, oversees the Category A and B design development process, provides the day-to-day technical relationship with the construction team and design consultants and ensures the development is delivered on time and to specification.
The Senior Engineer will act as the Council's technical lead for the Camden Yard Construction project, reporting to the Executive Manager, and will be responsible for driving the project through tender and construction. This involves managing the overall programme, budget, and risk register across all work packages, monitoring cost, programme, and quality against the approved business case, and escalating any variances with recommended actions. The role also includes overseeing change control and assessing the cost, programme, and contractual impact of design changes prior to approval, managing the multidisciplinary design team through to construction, and proactively coordinating internal DCC stakeholders across departments such as Housing, Parks, Transportation and Public Realm, Climate and Urban Resilience, Building Control, Finance, Procurement and Dublin Fire Brigade to keep delivery aligned with corporate objectives.
The Senior Engineer will also work closely with the DCC Transformation Team to ensure the Office Cat B design and construction is aligned with organisational business needs.
The role carries significant internal and external stakeholder and governance responsibility, acting as the principal point of contact for elected members, area committees, and Council executive management, and leading public and community consultation on construction impacts and public realm outcomes, including presentations to residents' associations and local business groups. The Senior Engineer will manage relationships with statutory bodies including Uisce Éireann, utility providers and An Garda Síochána, coordinate with neighbouring landowners and developers on shared infrastructure, and liaise with future tenants and occupiers during Cat A design to ensure fit-out compatibility.
The role also requires representing the project in Council reports and committee meetings with clear technical briefings, ensuring procurement and contract management complies with public procurement law and governance procedures, maintaining audit-ready documentation, and ensuring sustainability and climate-action commitments are delivered as designed.
