Job Description

This Senior Engineer position focuses on the design, implementation, and support of complex Aruba-based wired and wireless network infrastructures. You will take ownership of data centre EVPN environments and campus networks, leading high-impact changes, troubleshooting critical issues, and acting as a key technical escalation point for other engineers. The role is part time at two days per week and is ideal for an experienced networking professional who enjoys working hands-on with advanced Aruba CX, ClearPass, and Aruba WLAN technologies in a demanding, enterprise-grade environment.

Responsibilities
  • Attend IT infrastructure design meetings to support the smooth onboarding of new wired and wireless devices and services.
  • Produce detailed network documentation for proposed changes to enable new services and to resolve network-related issues.
  • Implement complex network changes that fall outside the scope of Junior Engineers, particularly within critical infrastructure such as core and aggregation layers and campus data centre EVPN environments.
  • Provide comprehensive documentation and clear guidance to L3 Network Engineers to ensure all network changes are executed in a controlled and precise manner.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for L3 Network Engineers, providing expert support and direction on complex incidents and changes.
  • Own the Aruba CX EVPN data centre infrastructure, overseeing configurations and design decisions to ensure they align with best practice and project requirements.
  • Plan and execute software upgrades across all aspects of the data centre infrastructure, ensuring stability and minimal service disruption.
  • Troubleshoot complex network-related issues within the data centre environment, identifying root causes and implementing robust solutions.
  • Plan and implement network configurations for new services within the data centre EVPN infrastructure.
  • Plan and implement network configurations for new services within campus wired and WLAN infrastructure that are beyond the capabilities of L3 Engineers.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure network designs and changes support business and public-sector client needs.
Essential Skills
  • Strong hands-on experience with Aruba CX Layer 2 and Layer 3 implementation and troubleshooting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Spanning Tree protocols and their application in enterprise networks.
  • Practical experience configuring and troubleshooting OSPF in complex environments.
  • Proficiency with VSF and VSX stacking technologies on Aruba CX Switches.
  • Solid understanding of IPv4 subnetting and IP Addressing concepts.
  • Strong grasp of VLAN segmentation concepts and their use in secure, multi-tenant networks.
  • experience configuring ClearPass 802.1x service profiles and integrating them with Aruba CX 6300 edge Switches for dynamic segmentation.
  • experience deploying Aruba CX colourless ports in conjunction with Aruba ClearPass.
  • Hands-on experience with Aruba WLAN AOS8 deployments and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to produce clear, detailed, and accurate network documentation for changes and designs.
  • Proven capability to plan and implement complex network changes in production environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for data centre and campus networking issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • experience working with advanced enterprise networking environments and data centre EVPN architectures.
  • Familiarity with broader enterprise networking technologies such as Comware and Juniper (as part of the wider technology landscape).
  • Ability to act as a Senior technical escalation point and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment with multiple concurrent initiatives.
