What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers Data Engineering team constructs pipelines that contextualize and provide easy access to data by the entire enterprise.

As a Senior Manager for Data Engineering, you will lead and mentor Data Management team members to achieve planned development and implementation goals and provide optimum support for all applications within the team's remit. This includes designing and building data solutions that capture, explore, transform, and utilize data to support Artificial Intelligence and Business Intelligence/Insights.

You will liaise with the business and other departmental managers to identify and implement resilient software applications that meet the needs of the business sponsors. Ensure ongoing IT support requirements are in place for all applications.

Travelers Europe offers flexibility for employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis, working three days a week in the office and two days at home, in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This policy may be changed at the Company's discretion.

What Will You Do?
  • Ensure appropriate resources and budget are available for projects as necessary.
  • Plan and oversee the activities and development of all team members.
  • Define requirements with the product owner and develop solutions using Travelers' preferred methodologies and platforms.
  • Engage with enterprise architects overseeing consumption patterns, platforms, and infrastructure.
  • Implement and develop analytic data products, data movement, and persistence capabilities, along with support and maintenance.
  • Operationalize and automate capabilities to ensure secure, supported, and scalable solutions.
  • Work with internal/external development resources to implement IT solutions.
  • Liaise with software suppliers for support and releases.
  • Ensure development and implementation schedules are adhered to.
  • Follow Travelers' development lifecycle standards and procedures.
  • Train users for effective system use.
  • Guide and coach team members for knowledge sharing and career development.
  • Identify synergies across group members.
  • Provide regular project updates to line managers and business sponsors.
  • Stay informed about new technologies and developments in the insurance industry, especially Cloud and AI.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Significant experience in Insurance IT, preferably in the Lloyd's Insurance Market.
  • Experience managing a busy team from project inception to implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Experience working with third-party providers.
  • Knowledge of Lloyds Insurance and Reinsurance, Finance GAAP, Actuarial Reserves, Regulatory Reports, Databases (Data Warehouse, T-SQL, SSIS, SQL Server 2019), ETL processes with Databricks, Programming languages (e.g., Python), AWS, Agile methodologies, Jira, and MS Office products.
  • Educational background with a BSc degree or higher in a relevant field.
