Job Description

The role

Overview & purpose

Reporting to the Data Strategy Lead, the Senior DevOps Engineer will help design and build the operational infrastructure to deploy and manage the software solutions in a robust and scalable manner. While Ark Data Centres have offices in Farnborough, Corsham and London, this role is 100% remote and the candidate can work anywhere in the UK.

Key responsibilities & duties

  • Operate and manage AWS-based cloud services.
  • Manage and automate VMWare's vSphere infrastructure and automation.
  • Manage and deploy virtual machines.
  • Assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining our DevOps infrastructure, tools, and processes
  • Adhere to ISO 27001 standards.
  • Conform to best practices in network configuration and cybersecurity, collaborating with penetration testers to address and rectify any identified vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for deployment, testing, and infrastructure management.
  • Integrate with GitHub, GitHub Actions, TeamCity and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Manage configuration and deployments of Ark's software solutions.
  • Develop hot and cold backup and restore strategies.
  • Develop implementation and backout strategies.
  • Develop operational monitoring strategies.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and scalability across the solution.
  • Work collaboratively with developers to ensure a smooth software development life cycle.
  • Interface with teams including Development team, Operations, Security, Product Management, and Infrastructure to ensure seamless integration of DevOps practices and processes throughout the organisation.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of all strategies, processes and procedures.

About you

Experience

  • At least 8 years experience in an Operations/DevOps role.
  • Extensive AWS experience operating and maintaining cloud services.
  • Experience deploying and scaling NodeJS cloud applications.
  • VMWare's VSphere experience; configuration and automation.

Skills & qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Security Check (SC) clearance (commonly required for individuals working with sensitive information).

Desirable:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
