• 5 + years' experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience with MySQL in production environments.
  • Advanced SQL expertise, including complex joins, subqueries, and an understanding of the performance trade-offs between different query approaches.
  • Strong knowledge of caching strategies and when caching should be applied to improve performance.
  • Experience with ORM tools, including the ability to write raw SQL queries when required for performance or complexity.
  • Proficiency with APM/performance monitoring tools (eg, DataDog) to analyse and optimise query performance.
  • Experience analysing query execution plans (eg, EXPLAIN plans) and making performance-focused improvements.
  • Strong understanding of database schema design and how schema decisions impact query performance and scalability.
  • Solid knowledge of indexing strategies, including when and how to create, adjust, or remove indexes to optimise workloads.
