About the Role

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed term: 24 months

The School of Informatics invites applications for a Senior Biomedical Data Scientist to support the Biomedical Data Intelligence Hub.

The Opportunity

The Biomedical Data Intelligence Hub supports research in AI for biology and biomedicine. It operates as a research and training support unit in partnership with the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Biomedical AI, funding over 40 doctoral students across various fields. The Hub aims to augment and catalyse ongoing projects with advanced data science skills and compute capabilities.

In this role, you will lead the development of data solutions with a team of Data Scientists and a Software Engineer, utilizing AI, Machine Learning, and other data science techniques, with access to state-of-the-art GPU compute resources. You will help manage, coordinate, and prioritize Hub activities and resources, collaborating closely with the Centre Director. As a founding member, you will have significant influence on the Hub's direction and strategy.

Requirements

We are particularly interested in candidates with data science teamwork experience from academia or industry who:

  • Have hands-on experience with computational techniques leading to meaningful outcomes.
  • Wish to grow their leadership skills in a new team focused on AI solutions with biological data modalities.
  • Can translate scientific goals into precise research questions and methodologies.

The Hub will work on diverse projects involving various data sources, including cellular, genomic, medical imaging, neural, healthcare, patient records, and molecular data, collaborating with multiple schools and institutes across the university and NHS.

Skills and Attributes for Success
  • Degree in mathematics, data science, AI, statistics, biomedical or biological sciences.

  • Proficiency in programming languages like R, Python, Julia, with documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills across disciplines and stakeholders.
