Job Description
What we are recruiting for:

We are currently recruiting a Senior Construction Manager for a MoD project in Oakham, Rutland. As Senior Construction Manager, you will lead,manageand coordinate construction activities, put together Construction Phase Health and Safety Planand advise on buildability and logistics of the schemes. This will involve the managementof supply chain including surveys through to main construction on site to achieve the high standards of safetyand qualityexpected ofboth Bovis and also the client team on the project. You will take responsibility for allactivities in the field of construction, including the day-to-dayplanning, supervision,record keeping, quality control, direction and monitoringof safe operationsand construction delivery.

This willalso include supporting the commercial team with robustrecord keeping. You will ensure that the projectis delivered in a safe, timely, efficient and sustainable manner, whilst achieving project targets,meeting clientexpectationsand enhancing the reputation of the business. Yourinvolvement will presentdirect contact with the decision makers within the business,offering technical knowledge,awareness, integration, guidance and advice. You will integrate in multi-disciplinaryproject teams, throughout the procurement and construction process to setup, procure and direct the safe,efficient installation, completion and close outof the project needsand prescribed parameters within budgetand within programme.

Key responsibilities:
  • Supportplanning logisticsphasingofall projects.

  • Preconstruction developmentofprogramme; scopingand project controls setup includingdeliverymanagement systems and online quality control systems.

  • Recruit and develop construction teams in readiness for delivery.

  • Lead earlyenabling and surveying works setting up projects ready for main contracts.

  • Develop and encourage an Incidentand Injury Free climate on site and in the supply chain and ensure thatallhealth and safety obligations,process and procedures are allocated to and delivered by the construction operations team.

  • The Senior Construction Manager is accountable for the supervision,direction and monitoringofday-to-day operations on site, ensuring thatall contractors are coordinatedand workingeffectively to the construction programme and detail and delivering the required quality

  • Monitor the progressof construction works and amend the methodology in light of unforeseen circumstances to ensure thatoverall completion dates are safely met

  • Develop a clear plan ofaction to ensure contractorsadherence to the Environmental Management Plan and monitor performance

  • Actively participate in all team meetingsensuring communication of changes affecting Safety,methodology or logistics

  • Constantly review the build quality achieved with the team ensuring that the contract's requirements in this regard are fully met

  • Ensure build ability issues are considered and givenappropriate priority at procurement stage

  • Ensure accuracyofprelims with regard to safety, logistical issues and the management ofenvironmentalrisks

  • Produce schedule of all statutory authorities and manage the processofengagement and notifications as required

  • Support the Project/AssistantManager to establish and manage series of meetings with all contractors to ensure that they are fullyaware of the latest design information(instructions, Request for Information answers etc.)

  • Responsible for planningand developmentof the site safety strategy, includingall aspectsof logistics

  • In conjunction with contractors, prepare short term programme, linked to longer term deliverables, allowing contractors to plan the week ahead

  • Communicate and monitor safe delivery against weeklyplan

  • Responsibility for demonstrating leadership,effective team workingand contributing to the developmentof colleagues on the project

  • Develop delivery metrics for all key trades packagesand, working with the construction management team, ensure thatactual delivery outputsare measured and reported

  • Ensure that the Construction operations processesand proceduresare adhered to

Essential Credentials:
  • Appropriate CSCS card for the role

  • Professional Construction Qualifications relevant to the role

  • SMSTS - 5 Day

  • Have, or be working towards, a related Chartership such as CIOB

Desirable Credentials:
  • First aid at work

  • Metal health first aider

Essential Skills:
  • Written and verbal communication to influence and build relationships

  • Ability to influence and lead teams.

  • Ability to read and understand programmes, design drawings and details, project scopes and specifications.

Desirable Skills:
  • Ability to influence and lead teams

Essential Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of the construction processand construction methods includingoperational safety systems

  • Knowledge of current construction laws, legislations,and regulations, standards and procedures.

  • Commercialand financial understanding in the above context- ability to contribute to value engineeringas partof the design process

EssentialExperience:
  • Experience in construction, including a sound knowledge of Construction methodology, process and sequence

  • Pre-construction and site establishmentexperience

  • Proven track record of delivering successful construction projects safely

  • Experience in construction, includinga sound knowledge ofConstruction methodology,processand sequence

Desirable Experience:
  • Background in design, construction & delivery process including technical Construction/engineering skill with a main contractor on projects above £30m in value

  • Experience of managing field construction activities on major/complex projects
