Senior Commodities SME - Business and Technology Advisory

£800-£900 Inside IR35

3 days on site, occasional travel to Madrid may be required.

Initial 3 months

We are seeking a Senior Subject Matter Expert with extensive experience in commodities advisory, ideally gained within investment banking or global trading houses.

The successful consultant will have deep expertise in commodities products such as swaps, forwards, emissions, and energy, coupled with a strong understanding of technology infrastructures like Murex.

This role will support a European financial institution in developing and enhancing its commodities business-providing strategic insight, operational recommendations, and technology advisory to strengthen business readiness and delivery capability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of the current commodities roadmap and technology architecture.

  • Assess business readiness across the full commodities life cycle - including pre-trade, post-trade, and clearing.

  • Identify infrastructure and process gaps, and recommend improvements to product onboarding and operational efficiency.

  • Advise on physical delivery models, inventory financing, and related operational frameworks.

  • Collaborate with global IT teams to evaluate delivery capabilities.

  • Support proposal development and define the scope for future implementation phases.

  • Deliver a final strategic advisory report detailing architecture, operational gaps, and actionable recommendations.

Key Requirements
  • Proven track record in commodities advisory, ideally within investment banking or commodities trading environments.

  • Strong understanding of commodities products - swaps, forwards, energy, emissions, metals, and power.

  • Hands-on experience with Murex (commodities module) and Middle Office operations.

  • Exposure to physical settlement and inventory financing models.

  • Familiarity with CCP clearing, exchange connectivity, and regulatory frameworks (eg, CFTC).

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex business and technical needs into clear strategic plans.

  • Experience within major commodities institutions (eg, Shell, BP, Glencore).

  • Background in business management, new product onboarding, or senior technology roles.

  • Knowledge of LME and precious metals markets.

  • Understanding of global trading models and back-to-back structures.

Project Details
  • Location: London (occasional travel to Madrid as required)
