A Senior Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics is required to commence from 05-August 2026 to work alongside 16 existing SPRs who support the Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate.
The successful candidates will be based at the University Hospital of Wales and Llandough Hospital. They will be expected to provide middle grade cover for clinical sessions and be on call for trauma along with the specialist trainees. Trauma services are provided at the University Hospital of Wales with a dedicated trauma theatre.
The University Hospital of Wales is a busy trauma centre and provides tertiary referral service for spinal trauma, pelvic and acetabular trauma and complex limb trauma. The Elective service is based at Llandough Hospital and is one of the busiest orthopaedic centres in the UK with over 10,000 orthopaedic operations performed in the last financial year.

Main duties of the jobThis post is particularly suitable for Post FRCS (Orth) trainees interested in gaining focussed training in Trauma and Orthopaedics. Independent Operating sessions will be available along with supervised sessions with 16 Consultant Surgeons taking part in Trauma service.

Person Specification Qualification- MBBS or equivalent
- Training in Radiation Protection or agreement to attend next available course
- FRCS/MRCS
- ATLS Provider
- FRCS ( T&O)
- Intercalated Degree
- MSc or PHD
- Academic Excellence
- Evidence of completion of basic surgical training.
- Evidence of middle grade experience in trauma and Orthopaedics.
- Specialist training experience leading to FRCS ( Orth)
- Basic and Advanced Trauma courses.
- Evidence of previous experience in trauma surgery
- Effective communication skills - Verbal and written
- Up to date with current medical practices
- Demonstrate skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
