Senior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

The closing date is 26 December 2025

We are looking to employ a Senior Clinical Fellow on a 12 month fixed term contract to work within our busy Maternity and Gynaecology department at Queens Hospital in Burton on Trent.

Fellowships will be available with training opportunities in any of the following specialties: Foetal Medicine, Maternal Medicine, Urogynaecology, Reproductive medicine or Ambulatory Gynaecology. Please state the fellowship you would be looking to apply for within your supporting statement.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake clinical sessions with duties within all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. When on call during the day time, the post holder will be included in the SpR on call rota covering Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The post holder will also participate in an emergency OOHs shift rota. It is anticipated that the post holder will work flexibly within the department with exposure to different sub-specialties.

Job responsibilities

This is a whole time Trust appointment initially for 12 months, with the possibility of an extension.

Applicants must possess MRCOG part I, Specialty Registrar Year 3 or above (or equivalent) experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology & be able to provide evidence of a Personal Development Plan & Log Book.

The post does not carry a National Training Number (NTN), therefore applicants with an NTN should negotiate with their Training Programme Director for out-of-training experience

The post holder will be expected to supervise & train postgraduate junior medical staff & participate in various teaching programmes for postgraduate students.

Clinical Responsibilities

The post holder will undertake clinical sessions with duties within all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Person Specification Qualifications
  • MBBS (or recognised equivalent)
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at time of application
  • CTG training
  • Basic surgical skills training
  • Hold ALS Certification
  • MRCOG Pt2
  • BSCCP accreditation or equivalent
  • Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty
Clinical Experience
  • At least 12 months experience of working in the NHS or equivalent
  • Evidence of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Satisfies the RCOG curriculum matrix for ST3 or above in Obs & Gynae
  • A minimum of 4 years postgraduate experience
  • Specialty Registrar Year 3 or above (or equivalent) experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Experience of working on a middle grade rota in the NHS
Teaching Experience
  • Experience of supervising juniors
Research
  • Evidence of participation/presentation in audit and research
  • Higher/other degrees MB, PhD
  • Peer reviewed publications
  • Academic poster presentations
  • Evidence of supporting junior trainees through projects
Personal Qualities
  • Experience of statistical analysis
  • Experience of laboratory work
