Job overviewWe seek a skilled and motivated Senior Clinical Fellow in Major Trauma and Emergency Medicine to join our esteemed team. Ideal for an experienced clinician aiming to develop trauma skills and experience trauma care at Lancashire Teaching Hospital. As a tertiary centre, we cover all specialties except cardio-thoracic, offering diverse trauma cases.
The role includes designated time to develop trauma experience, attend surgical and trauma courses, and participate in airway management. You will deliver high-quality patient care, lead procedures, and contribute to education and research. You will be assigned trauma shifts and manage complex traumas.
Main duties of the jobKey Responsibilities
- Clinical Excellence: Provide advanced care in Trauma and Emergency Department, managing complex patients efficiently.
- Leadership & Supervision: Mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative environment.
- Advanced Procedures: Perform emergency procedures including airway management and trauma interventions.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work with specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Education & Training: Lead and participate in training, simulations, and educational sessions.
- Quality Improvement: Engage in initiatives to improve patient outcomes and departmental efficiency.
The Emergency Medicine Directorate runs two EDs at Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospitals, providing 24-hour and 12-hour services respectively. In 2016-17, attendances were 85,594 at Preston and 35,715 at Chorley.
Royal Preston Hospital is the regional Major Trauma Centre, with consultant trauma team leadership from 8 am to midnight daily. Investments include a new CT scanner and ongoing upgrades to the ED and resuscitation areas.

- MBBS or equivalent
- Certification in ALS, APLS, and ATLS/ETC
- Completion of ST3 or equivalent in Emergency Medicine
- 4 years postgraduate experience, including 12 months in Emergency Medicine (6 months UK at ST4+ level)
- Anaesthetic experience
- Must not be out of practice >2 years
- Ability in patient evaluation and minor injuries
