Job overviewSenior Fellow in Cardiac Anaesthesia & Critical Care
This role offers 12 months of experience with a start date of November 2025 onwards, suitable for stage 3 anaesthesia trainees or those seeking post CCT experience in cardiac anaesthesia.
The post is based in the Bristol Heart Institute, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the jobThe post offers wide exposure to all types of acquired adult and congenital cardiac disease (except cardiac transplantation) with close involvement in diagnosis and surgical or interventional management. There are substantial opportunities for peri operative anaesthetic and intensive care management, including peri operative trans oesophageal echocardiography, pulmonary artery catheterisation, nitric oxide, aortic balloon counter pulsation, haemofiltration and insertion of percutaneous tracheostomies.
Qualifications and Training- Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- CCT in Anaesthesia and/or Intensive Care or NTN in Anaesthesia / ICM ready to start a Stage 3 SIA
- Previous experience in cardiac anaesthesia and cardiac intensive care
- Previous NHS hospital experience
- Completion of FRCA or FFICM by examination
- Other postgraduate diplomas or qualifications e.g. PhD
- Previous experience of transoesophageal echocardiography
- Completion of relevant training courses, e.g. CALS, EACTAIC Echocardiography courses
- Previous research and audit experience Skills and Abilities
- Technical and non technical skills at a level equivalent to completion of the RCoA CCT in Anaesthesia programme
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Effective information technology skills
- Competence in medical statistics
