Job Description

Senior Buyer - Fixed term contract for 6 months with a possibility to go permanent.

Reports to: Planning & Materials Purchasing Lead

In this role, the Senior Buyer is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement and delivery of materials, supporting the production team in meeting customer commitments, while maintaining optimal inventory levels and fostering productive supplier relationships.

Key Accountabilities

Procurement and Material Management

  • Place and expedite orders for assigned commodity ranges to ensure cost efficiency and timely delivery.
  • Monitor supplier inventory levels and address any anomalies proactively.
  • Maintain and update the ERP system item master for purchasing and planning-related fields.

Delivery and Performance Monitoring

  • Ensure the on-time delivery of materials to production to support customer order fulfilment.
  • Continuously work to reduce supply chain lead times and enhance operational efficiency.

Supplier Relations

  • Develop and sustain productive working relationships with suppliers, maintaining a professional image aligned with company values.

Training and Development

  • Actively enhance skills and technical knowledge through on-the-job and external training opportunities for yourself and the team
  • Communicate effectively across departments to meet customer service standards and business objectives.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members, fostering professional growth and skill development.
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for issues related to material purchases, ensuring timely resolution and maintaining operational continuity.

What We're Looking For

  • GCSE Maths and English is essential.
  • Minimum of 3 A Levels grade C or above, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Substantial experience in procurement within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
  • A self-motivated approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving supply chain issues, such as shortages or overstocking.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with suppliers, production teams, and stakeholders.
