We're seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer with strong expertise in NestJS to join a leading healthtech client. This is a fully remote position, with the option to collaborate in person at our Manchester office for those who prefer a hybrid setup.

About the Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance backend services using NestJS and Node.js. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust APIs that power critical healthtech solutions, ensuring reliability, security, and maintainability at every stage of the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable RESTful APIs using NestJS and TypeScript.
  • Work with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and ensure optimal data structures and integrity.
  • Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and QA to deliver high-quality features.
  • Write unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability.
  • Implement security best practices and maintain documentation.
  • Participate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest NestJS, Node.js, and backend technology trends.

Requirements

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in backend development with Node.js and RESTful APIs.
  • Significant hands-on experience (2+ years) with NestJS and TypeScript.
  • Strong understanding of database design and optimization (PostgreSQL preferred).
  • Experience with modern backend development tools (Docker, CI/CD, etc.).
  • Familiarity with unit and integration testing frameworks.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, debugging, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed, remote team.
  • Experience in the healthtech sector is a plus but not essential.
