Job overview

The Senior Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is a highly skilled autonomous practitioner who will provide expert clinical leadership and advanced neonatal care to infants requiring high dependency and short term intensive care. The role supports the strategic development of the Level 2 Neonatal Unit and involves leading the ANNP team, driving service improvement, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and research.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and line manage the ANNP/ACP team, including rota, performance and absence management.
  • Provide expert clinical care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and multidisciplinary communication for neonatal patients.
  • Deliver approximately 70 % clinical and 30 % non clinical duties, including education, mentorship, professional development and accreditation activities.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, research and quality improvement activities.
  • Support service development, policy implementation, and national engagement on advanced practice.
  • Manage documentation, care plans and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Act as an academic and clinical mentor, support recruitment, retention and training of the ANNP team.
Qualifications and experience
  • Recognised Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner MSc course (post MSc).
  • Master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice.
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and hold relevant credentials such as the NHS England ACP digital badge.
  • Substantial clinical experience post MSc in neonatal care.
  • Evidence of management, support and leadership of trainee ANNPs/ACPs.
  • Completed academic or applied research projects.
Skills and knowledge
  • Expertise in advanced neonatal clinical procedures and evidence based practice.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with families and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Analytical ability to address professional and ethical issues.
  • Capability to prescribe safely as a non medical prescriber within scope of practice.
  • Confidence to supervise and mentor junior staff, facilitate teaching and CPD.
Employment criteria
  • Appropriate UK professional registration (NMC).
  • Submission to Disclosure and Barring Service required.
