Experienced SEND Teaching Assistant (1:1 ASD Support)
Location: EN5, Barnet
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: ASAP (Trial - September)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
OverviewWe are seeking an experienced, dedicated, and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with Autism in a friendly primary school in EN5. The pupil requires a consistent, nurturing adult who can build a strong positive relationship whilst maintaining clear boundaries. The successful candidate will have experience supporting children with ASD and managing challenging behaviour using a calm, proactive, and positive approach. This is an excellent opportunity for a committed SEND professional who is passionate about making a real difference to a child's educational and social development.
Key Responsibilities- Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
- Support the pupil's academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Implement strategies to encourage engagement, independence, and positive behaviour.
- Manage challenging behaviour effectively using agreed behaviour support plans.
- Work closely with the Class Teacher, SENCO, parents, and external professionals.
- Create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
- Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and planning meetings.
- Previous experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or similar role.
- Proven experience supporting pupils with ASD within a primary school setting.
- Experience managing challenging behaviour confidently and appropriately.
- Any nurturing, patient, and empathetic approach.
- The ability to be firm but fair, maintaining high expectations and clear boundaries.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A genuine commitment to supporting children with additional needs.
