Job Description
Overview

SEN Teaching Assistant required for a secondary school in Rushden, Northamptonshire. Start date: September 2026. Contract: full-time permanent. Salary: competitive, dependent on experience. The role involves supporting students with Special Educational Needs and helping them achieve their full potential within an inclusive school environment.

Responsibilities
  • Support students with Special Educational Needs (SEND) across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • One-to-one support and small-group work to improve engagement, confidence, and academic progress.
  • Assist teachers in delivering inclusive and accessible lessons across the secondary curriculum.
  • Support students with Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, SEMH needs, and other additional learning needs.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
  • Adapt learning resources and teaching approaches to meet individual student needs.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.
  • Collaborate with teachers, the SEND team, parents, and external professionals to provide high-quality support.

What We Are Looking For
  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Patient, compassionate, and resilient when supporting students with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Proactive, organised, and able to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to support behaviour management in line with school policies.
  • Experience working with young people in education, care, youth work, coaching, or similar settings is desirable but not essential.
  • Eligible to work in the UK and willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
