SEN Teaching Assistant 1:1 ASD Tameside 
Location: Tameside, Greater Manchester
Salary: £95 £120 per day (supply) / £18,525 £23,400 per annum (195 days, permanent)
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2026
We are recruiting a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for a primary school in Tameside, supporting a Year 3 pupil with Autism (ASD). This is a full-time, long-term role for a patient, consistent practitioner who can build a trusted relationship with the pupil and support their access to learning throughout the school day.
Responsibilities- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with a diagnosis of ASD, under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO
- Build a positive, trusting relationship to support engagement, communication and emotional regulation
- Support the pupil's access to learning within continuous provision and whole-class activities, adapting tasks as needed
- Support the pupil towards individual EHCP targets, feeding back progress to the class teacher and SENCO
- Use strategies such as visual supports, sensory regulation and structured routines to support the pupil's needs
- Support transitions and unstructured times, including playtime and lunchtime, where the pupil may need additional support
- Attend to the pupil's personal care needs where required, in line with school policy
- Liaise with parents/carers, therapists and external professionals as part of the wider support team
- Undertake all safeguarding training and follow procedures to keep the pupil and school community safe
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism (ASD), ideally on a 1:1 basis
- Experience working within Primary, ideally KS1/KS2
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or working towards) for Teaching Assistants, or equivalent qualification/experience
- Calm, patient and consistent approach, with the ability to build trust quickly
- Confident using positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies
- Willingness to undertake relevant SEND training (e.g. Autism awareness, Team Teach) where required
- Fluent, confident spoken English essential
A fully enhanced DBS and two professional references covering the last two years are required.
