Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support
Location: Alvaston, Derby

Contract: September 2026 - Autumn term to start
Hours: 8:30am - 3:00pm, Monday to Friday
Setting: SEN School KS2 - KS4

About the Role

An inclusive SEMH school in Derby City is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support from September 2026. You will support pupils with SEN, SEMH needs, helping them regulate behaviour, build confidence and re-engage with learning.

The school provides a structured, nurturing environment with small classes, strong pastoral support and an experienced team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs across KS2 or 3/4
  • Deliver behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group learning and emotional support
  • Implement behaviour plans and risk assessments
  • Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing and engagement
  • Uphold safeguarding and welfare procedures
The Ideal Candidate

Calm, resilient and nurturing, with experience supporting SEMH or SEN pupils. Confident managing challenging behaviour and building strong relationships.

Essential Requirements
  • SEMH/SEN/PRU or alternative provision experience
  • Trauma-informed and restorative practice knowledge
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
