Overview

SEN Teaching Assistant - Mainstream Primary School, North Bristol (BS16)

Location: North Bristol (BS16) • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm (Term Time Only) • Pay: £90-£105 per day (PAYE) • Contract: Full-time, Long-term with potential to become permanent • Start Date: September 2026 / ASAP

About the role

Tradewind Recruitment are working in partnership with a highly regarded Junior School in North Bristol, part of a well-respected local academy trust, to recruit a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant. The role is based within a mainstream classroom, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs including Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs, cognition and learning difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will work closely with the class teacher to ensure every child can access learning, build confidence and reach their full potential.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual learning styles and abilities.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interactions.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and classroom routines.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENDCo and wider support staff to deliver personalised support plans.
  • Help create a positive, inclusive classroom where every child feels valued.
Candidate profile
  • Experience working with children in schools, nurseries, care or similar settings.
  • Passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs.
  • Patient, nurturing and able to build strong relationships.
  • Proactive, flexible and able to work as part of a team.
  • Desire to make a genuine difference to children's educational journeys.
Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply).
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Two recent professional references.
