Job Description
SEN Teaching Assistant PMLD and Complex Needs - OldhamAspire People is recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded specialist SEN provision in Oldham for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and complex needs. This is a rewarding but demanding role that requires compassion, patience and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of young people with the most complex learning, physical and medical needs. The school provides a highly personalised curriculum designed to promote communication, independence and quality of life. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals and other support staff to ensure pupils can access learning and enrichment activities safely and comfortably. Many pupils require significant levels of support throughout the school day. This may include assisting with mobility, medical needs, communication, sensory activities and personal care. Every interaction should promote dignity, respect and independence. No two days are the same, and successful candidates must be comfortable working in a practical, hands-on environment. Key Responsibilities - Support pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs throughout the school day - Assist with personal care while maintaining dignity and promoting independence - Support pupils with feeding programmes, including PEG feeding where appropriate and following training - Assist with moving and handling procedures using specialist equipment - Support pupils who require hoisting and positioning assistance - Work alongside therapists to deliver sensory and communication-based activities - Monitor pupil wellbeing and report any concerns appropriately - Encourage engagement, participation and interaction at each pupil's individual level - Support pupils with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and complex medical needs - Contribute to a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment We welcome applications from candidates with experience in: - SEN schools or specialist provisions - Care Assistant or Support Worker roles - Residential care settings - Healthcare Assistant roles - Nursing backgrounds - Complex needs, disability support or rehabilitation settings Previous experience supporting children or young adults with PMLD is highly desirable. School-based experience is advantageous, and candidates from nursing and care backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
