KS3 Teacher (SEN : Subject Specialist, Autism Provision)

Subject Specialism: Science

Contract Type: Full:time, Permanent

Purpose of the Role

The KS3 Subject Specialist Teacher will be responsible for delivering high:quality, autism:informed teaching in Science to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs.

The post holder will adapt the KS3 curriculum to meet the individual needs of pupils in a small:class specialist setting, ensuring learning is accessible, meaningful, and ambitious while supporting pupils communication, emotional regulation, independence, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning
  • Plan, deliver, and assess high:quality, adapted lessons.
  • Adapt the KS3 curriculum to meet the needs of pupils with ASC and associated needs
  • Use autism:specific and evidence:based approaches, including:
  • Visual supports and structured teaching
  • Clear routines and predictable lesson structures
  • Sensory and regulation strategies
  • Communication:supportive approaches
  • Create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment
Pupil Development and Wellbeing
  • Implement positive behaviour and regulation strategies in line with the schools autism:informed approach
  • Maintain high expectations for both learning and behaviour
  • Ensure safeguarding and pupil welfare are always a priority
Person Specification Essential Criteria
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Strong subject knowledge in Science
  • Experience of teaching pupils in KS3
  • Substantial experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ideally in a specialist or SEND setting
