SEN Learning Mentor Jobs in Ashburton/ Newton Abbot Teaching Assistant & HLTA Opportunities
Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a specialist education provider seeking a SEN Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant or HLTA to support a small number of secondary-aged pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA)and associated SEMH needs.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships and helping young people reconnect with education in a calm, nurturing environment.
Working with no more than two pupils at a time, you'll have the freedom to deliver engaging, personalised learning centred around each child's strengths, interests and wellbeing.
About the RoleThis is not a traditional classroom role.
The young people you will support experience high levels of anxiety and benefit from a flexible, relationship-first approach. Learning is delivered through Project-Based Learning (PBL), with plenty of opportunities for outdoor learning, creativity, exploration and practical activities.
Rather than following rigid lesson plans, you'll be encouraged to design projects around each pupil's interests, naturally incorporating literacy, numeracy and personal development along the way.
Some pupils are working towards reintegration into mainstream education, while others are accessing bespoke educational programmes tailored to their individual needs.
Your Responsibilities- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
- Support pupils with ASC, PDA, EBSNA and SEMH needs.
- Plan and deliver engaging project-based activities.
- Embed literacy and numeracy into practical, interest-led learning.
- Encourage emotional regulation, resilience and confidence.
- Adapt learning to suit each pupil's individual needs.
- Record progress and work collaboratively with the wider education team.
- Competitive daily pay.
- Weekly PAYE payroll.
- Dedicated consultant support.
- Opportunity to work in a genuinely rewarding specialist setting.
- Small groups with the ability to make a real impact.
- Future opportunities following the initial 14-week placement.
