Are you passionate about supporting young people who experience social, emotional and mental health needs?
Protocol Education are looking for a resilient, patient and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in Sunderland.
The successful candidate will provide day-to-day support to pupils who may experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour, engagement and learning.
You will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, supported and able to access their education. Building trusting relationships will be an important part of the role, alongside working closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team.
Your responsibilities may include:- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Helping pupils regulate their emotions and manage behaviour
- Encouraging positive engagement with learning
- Building positive and trusting relationships
- Supporting classroom routines and expectations
- Working closely with teachers and support staff
- Have experience working with children or young people
- Have experience within SEMH, behaviour, PRU or specialist education
- Have strong behaviour management skills
- Are calm, patient and consistent
- Can remain resilient in challenging situations
- Have a genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers
- Monday-Friday
- 8:30am-4:30pm
- Full-time
You will receive ongoing support from your dedicated consultant, alongside access to our CPD Academy, giving you access to a range of training and professional development opportunities.
You'll also have access to Thrive Awareness Training, helping you further develop your understanding of wellbeing and supporting children and young people.
This role could also provide an excellent route into a permanent position, with the opportunity to go permanent with the school if it is the right fit for both you and the school.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
