About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Section Manager - Foundation Learning (SEND) to lead curriculum delivery and staff within a specialist Foundation Learning provision. This is a key leadership role, combining strategic curriculum management with a hands-on teaching commitment, supporting learners with a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities, including SLD, PMLD and SEND pathways up to Entry and Level 1.
You will play a central role in ensuring high-quality provision, excellent learner outcomes, and a fully inclusive learning environment, while contributing to the continued development of SEND and supported employability programmes, including Supported Internships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop Foundation Learning programmes, ensuring outstanding teaching, learning and assessment
- Teach across Foundation Learning provision (up to 17 hours per week during term time)
- Manage and support teaching, support and agency staff, acting as a role model for inclusive practice
- Oversee curriculum planning, schemes of work, assessment schedules and awarding body requirements
- Drive recruitment, retention, achievement and progression of SEND learners
- Ensure implementation of employability, enrichment, SEND, Skills for Life and careers strategies
- Monitor quality, performance data and targets, leading on continuous improvement
- Support annual reviews for SEN learners and liaise with families, professionals and external agencies
- Contribute to business, curriculum development and resource planning
- Ensure safeguarding, health & safety and equality are embedded in all aspects of provision
About You
You will be a passionate SEND professional with strong leadership experience and a commitment to inclusive education. You will bring:
Essential
- Degree-level qualification
- Level 5 teaching qualification recognised in the FE sector (e.g. PGCE, DET or equivalent)
- SENCO or Level 5+ SEND qualification
- Proven experience teaching learners with SEND (minimum three years)
- Strong knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and current FE SEND provision
- Experience of Functional Skills and RARPA
- Curriculum leadership or coordination experience
- Team leadership and staff management experience
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
- A strong commitment to safeguarding, equality and learner achievement
