Due to growth of our state-of-the-art Cell-Based Screening and Functional Genomic Screening Platforms, we have an exciting opportunity for a Scientist 1 to join our Core Screening Department on a fixed-term 12-month contract. As a Scientist 1 in the Preclinical department, you will be responsible for executing cell and molecular biology, and automation workflows to generate data for high-throughput compound screens and CRISPR-Cas9 functional genomic screens for fee-paying commercial clients. Your daily activities will align with and support Revvity's goals and values.
This is a lab-based role involving some repetitive tasks. Candidates should be organized, self-motivated, able to work under tight timelines, and comfortable working under pressure in an environment with shifting priorities.
Note: This position requires flexible working to cover 7-day operations on a rota basis.
Responsibilities- Use various cell and molecular biology techniques, laboratory automation, and lab information management systems (LIMS) to contribute to arrayed compound screening projects and pooled functional genomics screening projects, with appropriate supervision.
- Independently undertake detailed tasks following training and SOPs, recording deviations as necessary.
- Process, record, and report all data generated in a precise and organized manner.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of screening processes and workflows to maximize effectiveness and reduce costs.
- Communicate data and information clearly to colleagues.
- Use resources effectively, holding yourself and others accountable for high standards.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A degree in a Biological Discipline covering mammalian cell biology.
- At least one year of full-time lab experience (industry preferred).
- Good organizational and communication skills, with a proven ability to plan and prioritize work to meet project or task timelines and communicate deviations as appropriate.
- Excellent aseptic technique and hands-on experience of mammalian cell culture techniques such as cell line passaging, cell revivals, and banking.
- A strong interest in laboratory automation and LIMS to produce high-quality products.
- Self-awareness, diligence, attention to detail, and good record-keeping skills.
You may also have:
- Practical experience with liquid handling robotic equipment and LIMS (full training provided).
- Knowledge of gene editing and gene modulation technologies.
- Knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction and PCR.
- Experience with high-throughput screening and analysis of compound dose-response experiments.
- Understanding of Quality Management Systems and Lean methodologies (e.g., 5S, 8-wastes, Kaizen).
- Experience working in an Industrial / CRO setting.
