Scientific Officer - Cornwall Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority

We are seeking a full-time, fixed term, Scientific Officer to assist Cornwall Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (IFCA) with the management of inshore fisheries around the coast of Cornwall and to assist the Authority to meet some of its statutory obligations.
About YouThe role holder will join a small team and will be required to collect, analyse and report fisheries and marine environmental data to inform and support the decisions of the Authority. The role requires time spent collecting data on commercial fishing vessels as well the Authority's survey boat.
You will have a BSc (Hons) in a marine science discipline and you must be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of relevant biological/ecological assessment techniques. You will need excellent communication skills - written and oral. You will work as part of a team and after training, be confident of working alone when required.
Experience in fisheries or marine research and/or management is desirable and you will have knowledge of Cornwall IFCA's work. Demonstrable understanding of commercial inshore fisheries is also a desirable attribute. Ideally you will also be able to demonstrate experience using GIS, using analytical software packages and be able to evidence a good understanding of marine environmental legislation.

Location - Hayle/Hybrid - although the successful candidate must be able to travel in Cornwall outside of normal working hours
Grade & salary scale - I, £31,835 (+5%)
Contract - Fixed term maternity cover - 12 months
Working Pattern - Full time
Hours/week - 37.0
Salary Type - Per year
