Duration: 12 Months
Rate: €850/day
Workload: 80% Remote (20% On-site as needed)
Languages: German & English
Experience: Minimum 10 years
Location: EU-based (preferred)
Our client is seeking an experienced SAP HR Payroll Consultant with deep, hands-on expertise in SAP PY-DE (German Payroll). This role is ideal for a senior consultant who is highly skilled in configuration, legal compliance, and end-to-end payroll processes in Germany.
You will work within an international HRIS/SAP HCM team, supporting ongoing payroll operations, system enhancements, and a series of SAP Payroll transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the configuration, optimisation, and maintenance of SAP Payroll Germany (PY-DE).
- Analyse payroll requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
- Ensure compliance with German legal, tax, and regulatory payroll frameworks.
- Deliver end-to-end support for payroll cycles, testing, documentation, and issue resolution.
- Collaborate closely with HR, IT, Finance, and third-party providers.
- Support integration points: PA, OM, TIME, FI/CO, and external payroll interfaces.
- Participate in system upgrades, enhancement projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide expert guidance on SAP HCM best practices, especially within German payroll.
- Perform functional testing, UAT support, and documentation of payroll processes.
- Act as the senior subject-matter expert for PY-DE within a wider HR transformation landscape.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of hands-on experience with SAP HCM, specifically SAP Payroll Germany (PY-DE).
- Excellent, demonstrable skills in configuration of German schemas, rules, wage types, time evaluation, and payroll reporting.
- Deep understanding of German legislative requirements (tax, social insurance, reporting obligations).
- Proven experience supporting production payroll environments.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Experience with year-end payroll activities (DE).
- Fluent German (C1/C2) and strong English communication skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience in S/4HANA HCM Compatibility Pack or migration projects.
- Knowledge of SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll.
- Familiarity with SAP HR mini-master integrations.
- Experience in multinational project environments.
Soft Skills
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in remote settings.
- Detail-oriented, structured, and proactive problem-solving approach.
- Ability to mentor junior consultants if required.
