Are you a General Practitioner with a passion for delivering high quality, patient centred care? We have an exciting opportunity at Cowley Road Medical Practice, a vibrant, community focused GP practice in East Oxford.

We are looking for a salaried GP on a permanent contract to work between three and seven sessions a week.

In return you will be supported by a diverse, multi skilled clinical and non clinical team and, in turn, provide high quality, person centred care to our patients.

Position details

The role will incorporate all aspects of day to day general practice, including acute presentation of patients (through duty doctor sessions) and chronic disease/long term condition monitoring (through routine telephone/face to face sessions).

Main duties of the job
  • Provide GMS services to the patient population of Cowley, Oxford.
  • Contribute to clinical administration duties.
  • Deliver a number of duty clinician sessions throughout the week.
  • Manage a patient list of 250 patients per session (3 session GP will have an allocated list of 750 patients; 7 session GP will have an allocated list of 1,750 patients).

Cowley Road Medical Practice (CRMP) is a well established GP practice providing NHS and primary clinical care to patients in East Oxford. We are a vibrant, forward thinking practice that places the care of both patients and staff at the core of everything we do. Job responsibilities Clinical
  • Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment at first point of contact from a triage list and act as an autonomous clinician, with support from clinical colleagues.
  • Proactively identify, diagnose, and manage treatment plans for patients at risk of developing a long term condition.
  • Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating drug and non drug treatment methods into a management plan.
  • Triage and prioritise patients, including in emergency situations, using a variety of techniques to elicit event/illness history.
  • Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients who need to be seen at their place of residence.
  • Evaluate clinical information from examination and history taking and initiate appropriate treatment or referral, including hospital admission if required.
  • Signpost patients to other services in the identified healthcare pathway and refer them to appropriate care settings within locally agreed pathways.
  • Maintain accurate and systematic documentation of patient interactions and clinical care, including adverse events.
  • Advise and support members of the public on healthy lifestyles, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Fulfil clinical administrative workload (e.g., pathology results and DocMan).
Communication
  • Liaise and interact with multi professional teams across organisational boundaries, including primary care, social services, and secondary care providers.
  • Maintain communication with all healthcare professionals and outside agencies to ensure seamless, patient centred service provision.
  • Ensure effective communication so that the patient receives the appropriate level of care and, where possible, avoid unnecessary hospital admission.
  • Take an active role in maintaining expert communication with all patients, carers, and relatives, meeting their individual needs.
  • Deal with complaints calmly and courteously, ensuring efficient and satisfactory resolution in accordance with local protocols.
  • Communicate effectively in demanding and challenging situations.
Professional
  • Input and extract information from the clinical IT system.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the health care team, such as the District Nursing Team, Mental Health Services, care homes, ambulance service, and secondary care.
  • Ensure the wellbeing of patients and staff is maintained in accordance with practice policies.
  • Undertake clinical audits in line with the organisation's audit plan and participate in equipment testing and other research as required.
  • Contribute to the analysis of information to inform future service development.
  • Participate and contribute to clinical meetings.
  • Identify risks to service provision and highlight them to the Clinical Lead.
  • Work within the requirements of Data Protection legislation as it applies to patient records.
  • Maintain current professional registration and indemnity.
Person Specification Experience
  • GP vocational or additional experience in general practice.
  • Committed to quality customer care and delivering excellent service.
  • Experience working in GP practice/primary care.
  • Evidence of commitment to continued personal development.
  • Proficiency in minor illness and minor injury treatment.
  • Experience in a safeguarding or clinical lead role.
Knowledge and skills
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to effectively assess and treat patients.
  • Strong clinical reasoning, assessment, and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of data protection and the requirement to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision following set procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and team members.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • A compassionate approach with a strong commitment to patient advocacy and support.
  • Knowledge of EMIS, DocMan, and ICE.

Qualifications
  • Recognised medical degree (MBChB, MBBS or equivalent).
  • General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT).
  • Full GMC registration.

Salary
