We are looking for an experienced and commercially driven Buyer to join our Retail Buying team on a maternity leave contract. This is an exciting opportunity for a trend-aware buyer who combines a strong product eye with commercial acumen and a passion for delivering outstanding lifestyle and fashion ranges.

The Role

As the Retail Buyer, you will be responsible for developing and delivering a compelling product strategy across your categories, ensuring the right balance of innovation, quality, profitability, and customer appeal.

You will source and curate collections that reflect the Avoca customer mindset, while driving sales performance, margin targets, and an exceptional customer experience across our retail stores.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute seasonal buying strategies for categories.
• Create commercially balanced product ranges that deliver sales, margin, and stock objectives.
• Identify emerging trends, brands, and product opportunities through market research, trade shows, and supplier partnerships.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating commercial terms and managing performance.
• Analyse sales, stock, and margin performance, identifying opportunities and taking action to maximise results.
• Monitor market activity and competitor trends to ensure Avoca remains relevant and differentiated.
• Manage products through their full lifecycle, from initial concept and selection through to customer launch.
• Work closely with Merchandising, Marketing, Retail Operations, and Visual Merchandising teams to deliver successful seasonal launches and promotions.
• Ensure product information, pricing, and promotional activity are accurately communicated across the business.
• React quickly to in-season performance, maximising opportunities on best sellers and managing risk on slower-moving lines.
• Prepare and present trading updates, seasonal reviews, and range presentations to key stakeholders.

About You

You are a highly commercial buyer with a passion for fashion, lifestyle products, and delivering exceptional product ranges. You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and thrive on identifying opportunities to delight customers while driving business performance.

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in a Fashion, Menswear, Lifestyle, or Retail Buying role.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of customer behaviour and market trends.
• Proven experience in range planning, product sourcing, and supplier management.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
• Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
• A keen eye for product, trends, and brand presentation.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Confident presenter with strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Agile, proactive, and adaptable approach to problem solving.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and retail reporting systems.
