Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in special education for Teacher Consultant position.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education in one or more areas (EI, LD, CI).
  • Three years satisfactory teaching experience, including at least two years teaching students with disabilities in a special education classroom.
  • Understanding of the SST process and coordination.
  • Training and instructional experience with state recommended reading and specialized programs.
  • Consulting experience with colleagues regarding program adaptations and modifications for students.
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse environment with ESL students.
  • Knowledge of special education due process procedures, writing of individual education plans, and data collection.
  • Evidence of highly qualified status as defined through NCLB.
  • State Board of Education approval as a teacher consultant or ability to qualify.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understanding of the SST process, general education interventions, and coordination.
  • Experience working with students with learning disabilities and behavioral challenges.
  • Serve as building contact person for community agencies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues regarding program accommodations.
  • Write and implement a FAB/BIP.
  • Work in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Serve in support groups for students.
  • Conduct home and community visits.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Coordinate students' services for special education, including modification/accommodation, planning, and oversight.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Interpret extensive statistical information and data related to student achievement.
Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to stand, talk or hear, walk, and sit. Intermittently the employee will bend or twist at the neck and may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required include close vision to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
