We are recruiting for our Acute Medical Unit. We would like to extend this exciting offer and invite you to join our existing dynamic expert nursing team.
This challenging fast pace unit sees a combination of directly referred medically expected patients and those referred from our emergency department. The aim is to provide same day emergency care inclusive of rapid diagnostic and direct medical review with the aim of facilitating discharge that day or transfer to a short stay unit.
We are looking for a flexible team player with excellent communication and commitment who can work a mixture of shifts across a 7 day rota. If you have any questions regarding this position please contact Hayley Chamberlain.
Our busy unit is looking for an experienced, motivated and forward thinking nurse who is keen to embrace the challenge of acute assessment nursing.
You will need proven ability at staff nurse level in acute medicine and up to date knowledge, excellent communication skills and team working abilities.
The ideal candidate will possess good time management skills and enjoy working within a busy environment as the unit has a high demand of admissions and discharges.
Main duties of the jobTo participate in the assessment of care needs of the clients and the development, implementation and evaluation of care, promoting high standards, demonstrating a compassionate nature and patient dignity.
To participate as a skilled member of the multi disciplinary team.
To work as part of the Urgent Care team, promoting good interdepartmental relationships.
To ensure high standards of care are given in relation to agreed standards, policies and procedures of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.
To assist in ensuring new nursing procedures, research and initiatives are evaluated, and where appropriate incorporated into clinical practice.
Store and administer prescribed drugs safely in line with legal and Trust requirements.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient's problems producing a written plan of care as required.
Report, document and evaluate accidents and unit incidents via Datix reporting, informing manager and updating health and safety register as appropriate.
About usAMU is a medical unit that has a high demand of admissions and discharges. We have medical referrals from GP's, paramedic crews, specialty teams and A&E. Working on the unit is both exciting and challenging and we work closely with all MDT.
The unit admits patients under medicine via GP referrals, paramedic referrals, different specialty referrals and medical referrals from A&E.

Person Specification Knowledge and experience- Safe and competent practitioner aware of own limitations and needs
- Experienced in giving IV medications
- IT skills to include data entry, Microsoft Word etc
- Have coordinated previous team
- Have interest in stepping up to coordinate the shift
- Registered Nurse with current NMC Pin Number
- Proven relevant experience at Band 5
- Evidence of continual professional development
- Urgent care knowledge and experience
